Key Stage 3 Provision

At Key Stage 3, students build on the skills they gained at primary school, exploring topics from the four areas of Number, Algebra, Shape, Space and Measure, and Handling Data.

All students follow the Revised Curriculum, but are set according to ability, so they are studying at a level that suits them. Students are assessed on average every half term via tests and Theme work. Set changes can occur at any time, but usually take place once a year.

Opportunities

In addition to our usual classroom offerings, Year 8-10 Maths students at St. Comhghall’s College can benefit from the following additional opportunities, that will hopefully be taking place within the school:

  • The UK Maths Challenge: a national competition open to students at Junior, Intermediate or Senior level. Our more able students in each year group are entered, and every year a small minority progress to the next round, competing with the top maths students in the country. Successful competitors may be awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold certificates.
  • Maths/Numeracy club: open to year 8-10 students, this provides excellent support at this level; we liaise with the staff who run this club on specific issues. Of course, students can always approach their class teacher for help with specific issues as well.
