What will I learn in GCE Applied ICT?

Computers are now widely used in all aspects of government, business, education, leisure and the home. In an increasingly technological age, a study of Advanced Information Technology and particularly how computers are used in the solution of a variety of problems, is valuable to you as a student, and is useful in future employment. The course provides an excellent foundation in the world of computers and Information & Communications Technology, covering a wide range of knowledge and skills in depth.

The course consists of 6 modules, all of which involve you working independently to produce a portfolio of ICT evidence. These include:

  • Unit 1 - Using ICT to communicate
  • Unit 2 - How organisations use ICT
  • Unit 3 - ICT solution for individuals and society
  • Unit 9 - Working to a brief
  • Unit 10 - Developing spreadsheets
  • Unit 14 - Developing and creating websites

How will I be assessed?

During the first AS, you will produce 2 assignment portfolios, which are marked internally and moderated by the examination board. You will undertake one externally examined unit (unit 2) which involves you producing a portfolio that is taken into the examination.

In the second year, you will produce 2 more assignment portfolios which again are internally and moderated by the examination board. You will undertake one more externally examined unit (unit 9) which involves you producing a portfolio that again can be taken into the examination.
