About the Department

The Music Department aims to give every pupil the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of musical activities.  Students are encouraged to understand and appreciate various kinds of music while developing their own music-making skills through listening, performing and composing.

Music is taught throughout Key Stage 3 and is offered as a GCSE option in Key Stage 4.  This option allows pupils to extend their personal musical interests and develop what hopefully will become a life-long interest.

All students are encouraged to take part in the many extra-curricular Music groups available within the school.  The Choir meets each Monday after school and we have a visiting Tutor from the Western Education and Library board who takes the Brass Ensemble. Under the Extended Schools Scheme tuition is provided for Drums, Guitar and Traditional Irish Music which is so much part of our culture and heritage.

Participation in these groups helps to develop life skills such as teamwork, sense of responsibility and self-confidence.  All of these qualities are evident when students perform for various events during the school year such as Liturgies, Prize-giving and Christmas time.
